The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday charged three men arrested last week in connection with the seizure of a stockpile of fake government documents and rubber stamps at a house in Daun Penh district.
Nav Sokhorn, 52; Suom Udomreaksmey, 24; and Nheb Vanna, 51, were charged with forging public documents and face five to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
“I charged them with forgery of public documents and stamps and I sent this case to the investigation judge,” said deputy prosecutor Kol Bon.
Eav Rith, director of the penal police office at the Interior Ministry, led a raid on Thursday of Mr. Sokhorn’s home, where more than 1,000 stamps with rubber seals that mimic those of various state institutions were found.
“Police did not finish the investigation for this case yet,” Mr. Rith said. “We are still looking for more suspects.”
The counterfeit stamps bore the seals of the ministries of education, agriculture, fisheries, commerce, economy, finance, foreign affairs and justice.
A police investigation was launched after the Ministry of Commerce reported a forged document using its masthead.
