‘Dilapidated’ Bridge Closed to Heavy Trucks

City Hall on Saturday banned truck drivers hauling more than 3 tons from crossing the “dilapidated” Chroy Changva Bridge, also known as the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, which has developed cracks in one of its support beams.

“It has a dilapidated support beam that cannot carry heavy trucks across,” City Hall said in a statement posted to its website.

“All owners of heavy trucks must follow this notice and transfer to cross the Prek Pnov Bridge temporarily.”

City Hall spokesman Long Dimanche said Sunday that traffic police would be redirecting heavy trucks.

He did not say how long the bridge would remain closed to heavy trucks and declined to comment on whether the bridge would be repaired. “

We will not allow heavy trucks that weigh over 3 tons to cross that bridge, because the bridge is dilapidated,” he said. “All the trucks must be transferred to Prek Pnov Bridge.”

CPP Senator Ly Yong Phat owns the Prek Pnov Bridge, which crosses over the Tonle Sap river, and charges a toll to those who wish to cross.
