Man Charged With Raping Girl, 13, in B’bang

Battambang Provincial Court charged a man Saturday for allegedly raping his 13-year-old cousin, a police official said Monday.

Paol Poeun, 23, was arrested last week after the girl’s family filed a complaint with the court, said Sear Thy, deputy police chief of Battambang’s Mong Russei district. “Paol Pouen admitted that he raped the victim,” Sear Thy said.

He said the girl was allegedly raped on Thursday, while she was waiting near a road in Mong Russei district’s Tralach commune for a group that was accompanying her. Her companions had gone into the forest to urinate, Sear Thy said. Paol Poeun is being detained in provincial prison, Sear Thy said.

Several reported rape cases involving under-aged girls have surfaced in recent weeks.

Thursday, Phnom Penh Municipal Court charged a man for allegedly raping his two adoptive sisters. A 23-year-old high school student in Dangkao district is being detained in Prey Sar prison awaiting trial, officials said.

Dangkao District Police Chief Chhuop Sok Heng said Chea Samnang was arrested Jan 20 after the girls’ parents filed a complaint. The parents adopted Chea Samnang when he was 13, Chhuop Sok Heng said. They claim he tricked one of their daughters, aged 7, to go out to the bushes behind their house, where he raped her on Jan 12, he said. They reported he also raped the girl’s 6-year-old sister the same night and attempted to rape the older girl again Jan 19. Her cries were heard by her mother, who stopped him, police said.

Also last week, police arrested a 33-year-old man for the rape and killing of an 11-year-old girl in Kandal province’s Kandal Stung district. The suspect, Pho Puon, a father of two, told police he raped and strangled the girl Jan 17. Police said her family lived near the suspect in Serei Sambath village. Her body was found a day later in a nearby pond, police said.
