Japan awarded Cambodia a “non-project’ grant of $16.7 million Monday, the fifth since 1993.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hor Namhong accepted the grant from Japan’s Ambassador Gotaro Ogawa at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The “non-project” grant program is intended to help developing countries restructure their economies in conjunction with World Bank and International Monetary Fund programs.
The grant is to be used to buy imported goods, which are sold to raise money for economic and social development projects.
Previous grants from Japan included $18 million in 1993, $40 million in 1994, $18 million in 1996 and $17 million in 1999.
