Phnom Penh Governor Chea Sophara said two prominent billboards recently erected along the Tonle Sap will be relocated.
“We will move [them] out to another place,” he said. “We are just testing [the idea] now and getting a reaction from people.” Reaction to the billboards has been largely negative, and several business owners and residents along Sisowath Quay have called them an eyesore.
The billboards, 9 meters high by 20 meters wide, are across from Sisowath Quay on the far bank of the Tonle Sap. At night, they illuminate the water and riverfront with the names “Sharp” and “Suzuki.”
Chea Sophara said OMC company, which represents Suzuki and Sharp, paid $3,000 for the billboards. It has agreed to move them after five months if the government finds another location.
the government has already received $3,000 from the OMC company, which represents the Suzuki and Sharp companies in Cambodia. The company has agreed to move the two billboards after five months if the government finds an alternative location, he said.
“If we have a suitable place we will move them,” Chea Sophara said.
