Bachelors Degrees Conferred

Eleven students from Phnom Penh’s Faculty of Law and Economics received bachelor’s degrees Friday, the first conferred since the school reopened in 1992.

Pok Than, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, pointed out the importance of producing skilled educators. “If schools have quality teachers, then the students will be high quality,” he said.

“I hope our students’ quality will improve step-by-step. It does not yet compete with the 1960s regime. But I have incentive to improve the quality,” he said.

Pok Than also said he hoped the new graduates will work to stop corruption. “If these students serve the government, maybe there would be no bribery and corruption,” he said.

Seven of the 11 students plan to go to France to earn master’s degrees.
