Vietnam, Cambodia keen to use local currency for trade: Malaysian PM

Malaysian PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently said Vietnam and Cambodia are keen to use their local currency for trading with his country to reduce dependence on the US dollar.

Vietnam and Cambodia are keen to use their local currency for trading with Malaysia to reduce dependence on the US dollar, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Malaysia is aggressively reducing its dependence on the US dollar, and so far we have received a good response,” he recently said.

It signed an agreement with Vietnam at the ASEAN Summit this year, and the two countries have recognised the Local Currency Settlement Framework agreement, said Anwar, who holds the finance portfolio.
