Cambodia sets up consumer protection committee with strong powers

Cambodia is to get a consumer protection committee with the power to jail offenders, close businesses or correct misleading information, the Khmer Times reported on Thursday.

The government has issued a sub-decree on the organization and functions for the National Committee for Consumer Projection (NCCP), giving it powers to investigate both brick and mortar establishments and e-commerce.

The notice was signed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
