Cambodia garment worker wage bumped up US$2

Cambodian garment workers will see a minimum wage rise of US$2 from January next year.

According to a letter from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, from 1 January 2021 textile, garment and footwear factory workers will be paid at least $192 per month while probationary workers will get $187.

The garment and footwear industry is Cambodia’s biggest export sector, employing about 750,000 people in approximately 1,100 factories and branches, according to local media reports, which claim some 120 factories have still suspended their operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, affecting around 50,000 workers.
