Two Arrested Over Rape Of 14-Year-Old in Battambang

One man and a teenager were arrested on Sunday for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Battambang City, according to police.

Troeng Soviet, 23, and a boy, 15, admitted attacking the girl at about 2 a.m. on Friday morning after seeing her walking on a road in Slaket commune, according to district police chief Thuch Ra.

“We arrested the two suspects at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday and questioned them at the municipal police station where they confessed to raping the victim at a nearby farm after seeing her walking alone,” Mr. Ra said.

“They put their hands over her mouth and threatened to kill her if she told anybody,” he said. Mr. Ra said the suspects were sent to provincial court Monday.

In a separate case, a 32-year-old man arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl was found dead in Battambang provincial headquarters detention room on Sunday morning after what police believe was a suicide.

Kan Nem was found hanging from his belt in his cell, according to provincial anti-human trafficking officer Koy Hieng.

He had been arrested the previous day.
