National Assembly Will Reconvene in May

National Assembly President Prince Norodom Ranariddh said Sunday his legislative body would convene on May 2.

The session, originally scheduled to begin April 18, was delayed as the Prince remained in France for a check-up. He returned to Cambodia Saturday.

The Prince said the Khmer Rouge draft law will not be the first order of business because the National Assembly still does not have a new draft version clearing up the language over the death penalty.

He again confirmed that King Norodom Sihanouk would be willing to testify at a Khmer Rouge tribunal. “The King has always said he would, but it’s my understanding that it’s up to the court to decide if they need him or not,” the Prince said.

On the subject of his health, the Prince said a French doctor examined him April 17 and told his the condition of his heart is “all right.” He said he feels healthy and weighs 60 kg, a gain of 1 kg from his last check-up.
