Police arrested a 23-year-old man for murder Tuesday after the body of a naked woman was found dumped on a street in Oddar Meanchey province’s Samraong city on Monday night, a police official said.
Deputy provincial police chief Lek Sokha said the suspect, Liet Chamroeun, confessed to drowning his friend Kong Soriel, 38, after she attempted to force sex on him after a night of heavy drinking together.
According to Mr. Sokha, Mr. Chamroeun claims the two left a karaoke parlor in Samraong City on a motorbike at about 8:30 p.m. to return to their guesthouse.
When their way was blocked by a flooded stretch of road, the victim tried to persuade Mr. Chamroeun to have sex with her, stripped naked and began acting aggressively, prompting him to drown her in the high water.
“The victim got so angry with him, and slapped him two or three times to make him angry with her, so he grabbed her neck and held her head underwater,” Mr. Sokha said, adding that a police autopsy found the victim had not been raped.
