The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Sunday charged a young man with extortion and disseminating pornography after he posted nude photographs of his ex-girlfriend to Facebook on her wedding day last year.
Deputy prosecutor Oum Sopheak said that Chheang Eng Ly, 25, was arrested by anti-human trafficking police on Friday and charged on Sunday.
“On his ex-girlfriend’s wedding day [last year], he wanted her to come meet him,” Mr. Sopheak said.
“He threatened to come throw the photos in front of the wedding hall, but he didn’t…. He posted the photos on Facebook instead,” he said, explaining that Mr. Eng Ly had wanted to make his ex-girlfriend have sex with him.
The victim filed a complaint with the court in October last year, but according to municipal anti-human trafficking police chief Keo Thea, Mr. Eng Ly refused to meet with police to discuss the case, leading officers to seek a warrant for his arrest.
“Only his lawyer came to meet police,” Mr. Thea said.
“Then we received an arrest warrant from the court and arrested him.”
