Man Charged for Raping 7-Year-Old Niece

Takeo Provincial Court on Monday charged a 40-year-old man for raping his 7-year-old niece while other family members were out of the home cultivating rice, officials said.

The victim was raped twice in the past week, Angkor Borei district police said.

“The suspect raped the girl when she was playing…behind her grandparents’ home,” deputy district police chief Ouk Saraph said Monday, adding that the suspect, Mam Chhoeun, was a mechanic and farmer.

“The man threatened to cut the girl’s throat if she told her aunt about the rape,” Mr. Saraph said.

He said the girl had been living with her grandparents because her parents were migrant workers.

Mr. Chhoeun allegedly raped his niece on Thursday and again on Saturday.

After the second rape, her aunt, the suspect’s wife, noticed that the girl had been crying.

Asked why she was crying, the girl told her aunt what had happened. She was brought to the hospital, where doctors confirmed she had been raped.

The aunt reported her husband to local police, who arrested him the same day.
