A Cambodian man has been put on Interpol’s most-wanted list and is thought to be hiding in Laos or Burma after evading police last month when they attempted to arrest him for allegedly leading a multimillion-dollar international drug smuggling ring, officials said Tuesday.
Lim Sokha Raksmey, acting director of Cambodia’s Interpol office, said Interpol issued a Red Notice for Dam Nha, 53, sometime in the last two weeks, but could not recall exactly when.
“He’s [involved] in the new case of the 55 kilos of methamphetamine the police seized in Phnom Penh,” Mr. Sohka Raksmey said.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Nha in late June to question him over a drug ring police had busted days earlier.
But when police attempted to arrest him at his home in Stung Treng province, Mr. Nha managed to escape and has not been seen since.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Mok Chito said Tuesday that police believed that Mr. Nha, thought to be one of the drug ring’s leaders, had left Cambodia.
“We think he is in Laos or Burma and Interpol is looking for him,” he said.
