CPP and Senate President Chea Sim said on Thursday the ruling party backed the yet-to-be-debated anticorruption law, saying the draft law will make great strides to improve the nation.
“The CPP supports the draft of the anti-graft bill recently adopted by the [Council of Ministers], which has reflected the common wills between the state and the people and is aimed at building a Cambodian society of equality, justice, dignity, harmony and progress,” Mr Chea Sim said.
“We are confident that after adopting the law by the National Assembly, mechanisms would be strengthened and promoted for guaranteeing efficient implementation in response to urgent demand of our people,” he continued.
After years of anticipation, the Council of Ministers approved the draft law on Dec 11 but copies of the long-awaited legislation have remained unavailable. Officials have said the law would be made public once it reached the Assembly, though a date for that to happen has not been mentioned.
Mr Chea Sim’s remarks came Thursday during the celebration marking the 31st anniversary of the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime on Jan 7, 1979.
During his speech, the CPP president also “vehemently” declared the ruling party’s support for current Prime Minister Hun Sen as its candidate for premier for all future elections.
