One of two men suspected of shooting another man in the leg following an argument next to a set of railroad tracks in Phnom Penh’s Pur Senchey district on Saturday night was arrested on Tuesday, according to police.
District police chief Yim Sarann said the suspect—Chhang Vanna, 31—was arrested at his house in the district’s Samraong Krom commune at about 2 p.m.
Mr. Sarann refuted local media reports claiming the suspect was a police officer and said the man was actually unemployed.
“Now we are questioning him,” he said, adding only that police were searching for a second suspect.
Deputy district police chief Touch Phorn also declined to provide details about the case, such as how officers identified Mr. Vanna or how he obtained a firearm.
The dispute began when two men on a motorbike stopped on a path running parallel to the tracks to complain about wooden boards lying in their way, according to police, who have said that Sok Chen, 36, a local resident and laborer, began arguing with the pair before throwing a stone at them, prompting them to shoot him.
