Son Confesses to Raping Mother Multiple Times

A 47-year-old man was arrested in Phnom Penh on Wednesday over accusations of regularly raping his mother over two months and threatening to kill her if she told anyone, according to a National Police report.

The 66-year-old mother of the suspect, an unemployed man in Russei Keo district, finally reported the alleged abuse to police at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the report said.

“The mother explained to police how her son destroyed property in their house and beat and raped her almost every day,” it said.

“Because she felt ashamed and afraid, she held her pain until she couldn’t hold it any longer.”

Commune police chief Thorn Buntha said the man was a divorcee, whose wife had left him because she “couldn’t put up with him.”

District police chief Teang Chansar said he had confessed to his mother’s accusations under questioning, but the case was still under investigation.

“It could have been orchestrated among families,” Mr. Chansar said.

The suspect is being held at the district police station, he said.
