A security guard at a popular nightclub in Siem Reap City was charged with raping a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, police said on Sunday.
Provincial penal police chief Duong Sokha said Mao Dara, 36, had been drinking with the victim inside the Angkor Archaeological Park in the early evening, before he brought her back to his apartment—where he lived with his wife—in the city’s Slakram commune.
“They went to have a meal and drink beer in front of Angkor,” he said, adding that when the victim became drunk the suspect “let her sleep in his room.”
Mr. Dara left with his wife for his shift at the Galaxy club that night, but borrowed a friend’s motorbike to return home and raped the sleeping girl, forcibly holding her down when she awoke, Mr. Sokha said.
She managed to escape after asking to go to the bathroom, and ran outside onto the street in just a towel screaming for help, he said.
Mr. Dara was sent to the provincial court on Sunday, where he was charged with rape and sent to the provincial prison to await trial, he added.
