Following the discovery of the body of a murdered Thai casino employee in Pailin province on Sunday morning, police said on Wednesday they still have no clues as to who was behind the killing.
Somneuk Jaroonjirasathian’s body was found in a shallow grave in a field in Sala Krao district by a woman harvesting morning glory.
An autopsy conducted by Thai authorities concluded that the man, employed by the Pailin Flamingo Casino, had been shot in the neck and shoulder.
Chhorm Vanthy, chief of the Pailin provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said despite questioning a number of possible witnesses, no arrests had been made.
“We have not found any suspects yet,” he said, denying reports in Thai media on Wednesday claiming that two arrests had been made in Cambodia. “We don’t have enough evidence to link the crime to anyone,” he said.
On Monday, the Bangkok Post quoted Warut Wannaiamphikun, the casino’s Thai owner, as saying that the victim had spoken to him about 32 million baht (about $900,000) that was owed to him by a friend and business associate.
