Police Arrest 2 Suspects After Body Found in Pond

Police have arrested the wife and godson of taxi driver Kao Pha, 50, whose body was found floating in a trash-filled pond in Phnom Penh’s Pur Senchey district on October 14.

Suspected of murdering his godfather, So Pha, 29, was arrested in Pur Senchey on Thursday, according to Eng Hy, spokesman for the national military police.

The victim’s wife, Sao Som Oeun, 46, was arrested in Svay Rieng province, according to Kong Kan, chief of the provincial military police’s crime investigation bureau, who declined to give more details about the arrest.

According to a report posted on the national military police’s website, the victim’s child had sent the couple $12,000 for safekeeping, but the victim used the money to buy a van and left his wife for another woman.

Ms. Som Oeun then hired Mr. Pha to murder him, it said.

“The suspect already admitted to his crime,” Brigadier General Hy said of the godson. “The wife of the victim hired him to kill the victim by giving him $1,000.”

Phnom Penh Municipal Court deputy prosecutor Soeur Vanny said the pair would be questioned today.
