Father At Large After Murdering Son in Pursat

A rice farmer accused of murdering his son with an ax after an argument on Friday evening in Pursat province is still at large, police said on Sunday.

Kao San, 49, is accused of hacking the face and head of his son, San Dy, 27, with an ax in Bakan district’s Trapaing Chong commune.

The victim’s mother heard the attack and upon finding her injured son called Bakan village chief Sao Sin, who alerted commune police.

The commune police then took him to the provincial hospital, where he later died from his wounds, according to commune police chief Bun Roeun.

The victim’s mother said the dispute started when San Dy came home drunk and wanted to borrow his brother’s motorbike, but Mr. San would not allow him to drive it.

The son had a history of threatening his father with violence when he was drunk, police said.

“The mother wants to drop the case, but the law can’t tolerate murder,” said Mr. Roeun, the commune police chief.
