Opposition lawmakers including acting CNRP President Kem Sokha are planning to pay a visit to Prey Sar prison today to meet with a number of their colleagues and Kong Raya, who was imprisoned in 2015 over a Facebook post in which he asked if anyone wanted to join him in staging a “color revolution.”
Mr. Raya, a university student who was arrested on August 21, 2015, and sentenced to 18 months in prison for incitement to commit a felony, is set to be released this week.
The Interior Ministry approved a request by CNRP lawmaker Mu Sochua to visit 15 prisoners, including Mr. Raya, this afternoon at 2 p.m. Prime Minister Hun Sen and his government have used the term color revolution, which generally refers to peaceful movements to seize power from authoritarian leaders, to refer to any action that might threaten Cambodia’s stability—including, seemingly, the CPP’s grip on power.
Mr. Raya told reporters after his sentencing that the decision was “nothing unusual for the courts in Cambodia.
It is just like this.”
