Alleged Killer Arrested After Returning Home

A 29-year-old man suspected of fleeing to Thailand after killing his godfather during a drunken argument 18 months ago was charged on Tuesday with premeditated murder in Pursat province after he returned to Cambodia, police said.

Trung Borey had been accused of killing 74-year-old Hak Horn, with whom he had previously lived, by stabbing him, slashing his throat and cutting off his genitals, Bakan district police chief Neang Vuth said.

Mr. Borey was arrested on an outstanding warrant at his sister’s house in the district’s Svay Donkeo commune at about 1 p.m. on Monday, Mr. Vuth said.

Neighbors reported that the two men had quarrelled on the night of August 23, 2015, and that Mr. Borey had a history of unstable behavior when drunk, he said.

Meas Mol, chief of the province’s serious crime bureau, said Hak Horn had repeatedly taunted Mr. Borey before he was killed.

“The two were drinking beer together and the victim scolded him,” he said, adding that Mr. Borey, who confessed to the crime and was sent to prison to await trial, had worked in Thailand for about a year.
