Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has aired concerns about the transparency of Australia’s submarine ambitions during a rambling speech in which he also accepted they would be nuclear-powered and not nuclear armed.
The strongman PM also linked the AUKUS announcement to Australian distrust over a controversial Chinese-funded naval base.
The Cambodian leader was among more than 60 world leaders who were briefed by the Australian government on its $368 billion plan to acquire a fleet of nuclear-propelled submarines before the details were unveiled in San Diego by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, United States President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday.
