Chung’s late goal saves night for Azkals

A late, late goal from young Dennis Chung saved the night for the Philippines, which salvaged a 1-1 draw against a surprisingly tough Cambodia in a thrilling Group A action in the SEA Games football competitions at the Rizal Memorial football stadium last night.

On the brink of disaster after the Cambodians stunned the hosts with a goal in the first half and a gritty defense in the next, the Azkals’ U-23 never gave up and cashed in on the added five minutes after the 90-minute regulation. As time ticked to its last minute, Stephan Schrock shook off his defender on top of the box, kicked a pass to Yrick Gallantes, who set up the 18-year-old Chung, who fired the crucial match-tying goal that hit the bottom of the net in the 93rd minute and sparked a frenzied celebration on the turf all the way to the stands.
