King Father’s Body to Be Cremated on February 4

The remains of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk will be cremated on February 4, Prime Minister Hun Sen said during a speech yesterday at the groundbreaking of a new overpass in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district.

Three days before the cremation, the late King’s remains will be moved a block from the Royal Palace to a funeral pyre which is currently being built at Veal Mean—the gardens in front of the National Museum, where it will lie in state, he added.

Mr. Hun Sen said the February 1 procession and February 4 cremation will be televised, and that the government will consider another official mourning period following the funeral. The King Father passed away in Beijing on October 15.

His body was transported to Phnom Penh two days later, where it has since been lying in state at the Royal Palace.
