Two former refugees in one political race for Syracuse Common Council

There are a record number of refugees running for public office in Syracuse.

The city’s politics have long been dominated by earlier generations of immigrants from countries like Ireland and Italy.

Of the nearly 10,000 recent refugees in the city, none have ever been elected to public office.
