Cambodian exiled opposition leader wants a peaceful people’s movement

Exiled Cambodian opposition party leader Sam Rainsy, who was prevented by Thai Airways from boarding a flight to Cambodia from Paris, spoke to RFI a short while before attempting to catch his plane.

Sam Rainsy has been in exile in France, where his family settled in the 1960s.

He is an arch rival of Hun Sen, Cambodia’s authoritarian leader in power since 1985.

Rainsy and his deputy Mu Sochua had planned to meet up with other opposition supporters to mark Cambodia’s Independence Day on Saturday.
