Woman Shot in Hand Fighting Off Would-Be Thieves

A 22-year-old woman was shot in the hand Monday in Phnom Penh as she resisted two thieves’ attempts to snatch her bag, a police chief said.

Theng Kosal, Pur Senchey district police chief, said the woman was driving her motorbike along Veng Sreng Street in Choam Chao commune at about 7 a.m. when two suspects attempted to snatch her bag.

“The victim was shot in her left hand when she scuffled with the two suspects who were trying to pull her bag away from her,” he said. “She suffered a minor injury.”

Mr. Kosal added that the suspects did not manage to steal the woman’s bag and fled the scene.

“The suspects did not get the woman’s bag and they fled when people in the area began shouting that there was a thief,” he said.
