Woman Killed in Bed as Truck Crashes Into Home

A truck driver is at large after crashing into a woman’s home and killing her in Kompong Chhnang province late Monday night, police officials said Tuesday.

The driver, Nouv Samnang, 30, was traveling from Phnom Penh to the province and is believed to have lost control of his truck after colliding with another vehicle, said Oum Chamroeun, the police chief of Kompong Tralach district’s Seb commune.

He said the vehicle veered into the home of Toam Sarath, 34, which was about 10 meters off the road, at about 11.40 p.m. and killed her instantly as she slept.

“She was sleeping at night when the truck hit her. The big truck dragged her with her bed, mattress, and blanket about 5 meters away from her house,” Mr. Chamroeun said.

District traffic police chief In Chanmony refused to name the company that employed Mr. Samnang and said he and the driver of the vehicle he collided with fled the scene.

The vehicles were taken to the provincial traffic police station.

“Police are investigating and looking to arrest both drivers,” he said.
