Woman Dies in Hospital Following Machete Attack

A 52-year-old woman from Tbong Khmum province died in a Kompong Cham military hospital on Monday, a few hours after her husband attacked her with a machete at their home in Tbong Khmum district, police said on Tuesday.

Poeu Sreymom was hacked by her husband, Horm Sareth, 51, at around 8:15 p.m. after the man saw her “tease” a neighbor, according to Yong Someath, Chirou II commune police chief.

“The husband loved his wife very much and he was jealous when he saw his wife tease a male neighbor,” Mr. Someath said.

“The man was drunk and took a machete from the kitchen. Then he chopped his wife twice in the head and he escaped with the machete.”

Mr. Someath said that Poeu Sreymom was taken to the nearby 7D military hospital in Kompong Siem district and died at about 11 p.m.

He added that Mr. Sareth remained at large after escaping the crime scene on foot.

“We are now working to find the perpetrator to bring him to court to face responsibility for the intentional murder,” he said.
