Police said Sunday they were investigating the murder of a woman and a child whose dead bodies were discovered inside a plastic bag in Kompong Speu province on Saturday morning.
A villager discovered the bag at around 9 a.m. in a forested area in Phnom Sruoch district’s Treng Trayoeng commune.
The victims were identified as Pav Dany, 30, and her 6-year-old daughter, who had been missing from their home in Phnom Penh since February 15, according to San Sak, the provincial deputy penal police chief.
“We did not see any wounds on the bodies, and we believed the suspects killed them around 15 days ago and placed their bodies here,” he said. “We are investigating to find out why and how their bodies came to be here.”
Mr. Sak said that Pav Dany’s relatives had already buried her and her child near the location where they were found, and are preparing a separate funeral near their home.
“We are burning our arms and legs to find the perpetrators of this crime,” Mr. Sak said.
