Woman Charged Over Kandal Razor Attack

The Kandal Provincial Court charged a woman with intentional violence Tuesday for attacking another woman with a razor blade after the victim refused to stop calling the suspect’s husband, local officials said Wednesday.

Despite showing up at the house of Srin Mony, 26, on Monday with a razor blade in hand, Khang Chenda, 35, claimed on Tuesday that she had merely acted in self-defense after the younger woman attacked her first, according to provincial court prosecutor Ouk Kimseth.

“The suspect said the argument began after [Ms. Mony] attacked her first and she used the razor to defend herself,” Mr. Kimseth said, adding that Ms. Chenda was sent to pre-trial detention at the provincial prison Tuesday evening, nevertheless.

Ms. Chenda was arrested Monday after the attack on Ms. Mony left the victim with deep wounds on her face, stomach and arms.

Police are still searching for five women who accompanied the suspect to Ms. Mony’s home in Khsach Kandal district, provincial police chief Earv Chamroeun said Wednesday.
