Woman Arrested for Smuggling Meth in Preah Vihear

Anti-drug police on Saturday arrested a woman with more than 800 grams of crystal methamphetamine in Preah Vihear province’s Chheb district, but failed to apprehend a group of Laotian drug smugglers she is believed to have been colluding with, a police official said Sunday.

“We confiscated 843.7 grams of ‘ice’ and arrested one Cambodian woman, but the Laotian drug dealers ran away and escaped,” said Khieu Samon, chief of the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug police, identifying the woman as 47-year-old Nem Sai.

In Song, deputy chief of the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug police, said Ms. Sai was arrested at her home in Kompong Sralao I commune at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

He said police began investigating the woman and her suspected Laotian accomplices several months ago in Stung Treng province, and followed the group when they seemingly moved their operation to Preah Vihear earlier this year.

“The drug smugglers moved from Stung Treng province to Preah Vihear province, but couldn’t escape from our anti-drug police,” he said.
