A 42-year-old woman was arrested late Sunday for planning to sell the virginity of a 16-year-old girl at the Lucky Star Hotel in Tuol Kok district, according to police.
Kao Thiheang is accused of taking the victim to have sex with a client at the request of the girl’s family, who wanted to earn a $2,500 payout promised by Ms. Thiheang, according to municipal anti-human trafficking police chief Keo Thea.
Mr. Thea said Ms. Thiheang lived near the victim’s family in Meanchey district.
“We rescued the 16-year-old victim and detained Ms. Thiheang for questioning and will send her to court on Friday,” he said. “The victim’s parents are on the run, and police are investigating to arrest them and send them to court.”
The police investigation of the case was assisted by the anti-pedophile NGO Action Pour Les Enfants, which said in a statement Thursday that it alerted police after receiving a tip that Ms. Thiheang had brought the girl to be examined to make sure she was a virgin.
The girl was rescued before the sale went through, and police are now investigating to determine the identity of the prospective buyer, Mr. Thea said.
