A woman who told police her estranged husband abused her for eight years is in custody after allegedly stabbing him to death with a vegetable knife.
Kong Saman, police chief of Meanchey district, said Monday that the killing occurred in the early morning of March 13.
Teang Kea, 30, is accused of stabbing her 34-year-old husband, Snguon Sao, twice in the chest.
She told police he was in the habit of drinking and then beating her. Villagers told police they felt very sorry for Teang Kea because he beat her so often.
Although Snguon Sao was operated on at Sihanouk Hospital, the injuries to his lungs and liver proved fatal
Teang Kea is being detained in Prey Sa prison by order of prosecutor Ya Sokhon of Municipal Court.
The couple, who had three children, had agreed to divorce a month ago.
Although they had signed a document before the village chief, it was not an official divorce.
