Website Owner Nabbed Over Pornographic Links

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for distributing pornographic videos and photographs on Facebook in an effort to drive traffic to his job-search and entertainment news website, according to police.

The Interior Ministry’s internal security department detained Chun Sochet, operator of the “HRnews24” website, after questioning him over pornographic posts linking to his site, according to a Tuesday post on the National Police’s Facebook page.

“Recently, the internal security department has done an investigation and arrested Chun Sochet, 24, relating to the sharing of pictures and videos on the website and Facebook page,” reads the post, which is accompanied by lightly blurred examples of the pornography.

“After questioning at the internal security department, Chun Sochet has confessed and acknowledged the mistake that he has committed,” the post reads.

Mr. Sochet had allegedly linked the pornography on his HRnews24 Facebook page to the website itself in order to attract more readers, the National Police said.

Deputy National Police Commissioner Chhay Sinarith said Mr. Sochet was formally arrested by police on Wednesday.

“I can confirm the internal security department has arrested him, but I do not know more details because I did not get a detailed report yet,” he said. “He was arrested today but I’m not sure of anything specific yet.”

“I heard the suspect might be sent to the municipal court tomorrow,” he said. “Police arrested him because he posted many pornographic videos on his Facebook page.”

Neither the HRnews24 Facebook page or website displayed any readily visible pornography on Wednesday afternoon, and a man who identified himself only as the website’s advertising manager said it had been taken down.

“We did not know whether the law at the Ministry of Interior bans [pornography] or not,” said the man, who refused to identify himself by name for fear of arrest.

The man said the pornography in question was in fact taken down more than two months ago, when the internal security department first contacted the website.
