Village Chief, Friend Robbed and Shot Dead

A village chief and his friend were shot to death Saturday night at the chief’s home in Ponhea Krek district, Kompong Cham province, police said Wednesday.

Seng Sokim, Kompong Cham province deputy police chief, said that Ak Cheng, the 56-year-old chief of Ta Sit village, and So Chhin, 35, were shot at about 7:30 pm.

Three intruders apparently first shot, then robbed the victims of about 100,000 riel ($25) and five chi of gold, Seng Sokim said.

The men also severely beat Ak Cheng’s wife with a gun butt, he said.

Three provincial police officers are investigating the case, Seng Sokim said.

They have several suspects in mind because some villagers reported seeing them driving a motorbike into the village.
