US Ambassador Kent Wiedemann on Friday announced a donation of 5,000 tons of rice to the World Food Program in Cambodia.
William Oliver, director of the US Food Assistance Program at the USAID office in Washington, was in Cambodia for the donation ceremony.
Wiedemann, Ly Thuch, secretary of state fro the Ministry of Rural Development, Willard Pearson, USAID mission director in Cambodia, and Monika Midel, WFP’s representative, also participated in the ceremony at WFP’s office in Phnom Penh.
Last November, USAID and the US State Department announced a contribution of 6,385 tons of rice, bringing total recent donations to more than 11,000 tons. WFP assists almost 1.5 million Cambodians each year. The 5,000-ton contribution brings the total amount of US assistance to WFP to $5.63 million.
