A man was chopped to death with an ax Wednesday after he confronted a group of three men who allegedly beat his 12-year-old daughter on the dance floor of a Khmer New Year party, police said Thursday.
Vann Savet, 38, approached the men and asked them who had hurt his daughter during the party in Battambang province’s Sampov Loun district, said deputy district police chief Chhit Seng.
Then one of men, angered by Vann Savet’s line of questioning, grabbed an ax and struck him to death, Mr. Seng said. “Mr. Savet was chopped three times on the head and on his body. He was pronounced dead at the hospital,” he said.
One suspect, Soeung Sorab, 18, was arrested shortly after the incident, while the others remain at large, Mr. Seng said.
Mr. Seng said police questioned Mr. Sorab, who said the other two men, identified as Huy Min, 22, and a 26-year-old known as Nga, had administered the fatal blows to Vann Savet.
“Police will send Mr. Sorab to court and look at arresting the other two suspects,” Mr. Seng said, adding that Vann Savet’s body was sent to his family Thursday for a funeral.
