More than 200 volunteers will help a local orphanage today to celebrate International Volunteers Day.
Volunteers are scheduled to fix up Unacas, an orphanage 12 km from Phnom Penh. They plan to do everything from building a shed, assembling a playground, remodeling a kitchen and expanding a pig pen, a statement from the UN Development Program said.
About 45 children and 15 adults live in the orphanage, opened in 1996 by Sar Sakada, a Cambodian widow with two children. The event is open to the public with activities for children. A reception will be held at 7 pm at the National Center of Disabled Persons Cafe L’Haokun.
