Two-Year-Old Dies in Hit-and-Run in Kompong Cham

A 2-year-old girl was killed on Saturday in Kompong Cham province’s Chamkar Loeu district when a Toyota Camry crashed into the back of a motorbike she was on with her family, police said Sunday.

The girl, Pov Hor, died shortly after the car hit the motorbike she was riding along with her grandparents, Nut Taing Ngim, 45, and Pov Chanthy, 43, according to Lim Sothy, the district traffic police chief.

“While the victims drove along the road, the car crashed into them from behind,” Mr. Sothy said.

“The motorbike passengers were thrown to the ground and the 2-year-old died at the scene.”

Mr. Taing Ngim sustained a head injury in the crash and Ms. Chanthy was slightly injured, said Mr. Sothy, adding both are recovering at the provincial hospital.

“Eyewitness said the driver sped away from the scene and parked the car about 5 km down the road before running into the jungle,” Mr. Sothy said, adding that both the motorbike and car remain at the district police station.

Theng Bunthoeun, provincial deputy traffic police chief, said he had forwarded the car’s license plate number to the provincial department of public works and transportation and was awaiting a response regarding the identity of the car’s owner.
