Two Men Held, One Sought for Sex Crimes

Two men went to court this week to face charges of sexually abusing young girls, while police in Battambang province are searching for a suspect who fled after he was accused of raping an 11-year-old.

Police in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district sent Pum Soksithan, 19, to municipal court Wednesday to be charged with molesting a 4-year-old girl, deputy district police chief El Rany said.

“The criminal claimed he would kill all the victim’s family if the victim’s mother accused him of raping her daughter. The mother decided to file the complaint in order to ask police to arrest him, because she was scared,” El Rany said. After his arrest Monday, Pum Soksithan confessed he had molested the girl on several previous occasions, the deputy chief said.

A 32-year-old man was sent to the Interior Ministry’s anti-trafficking and juvenile protection office Tuesday, accused of raping his 5-year-old stepdaughter, said Ek Han, chief of Kandal provincial police’s anti-trafficking bureau.

The man reportedly attacked his step-daughter Aug 28 at the family’s Kandal province home while her mother was away, Ek Han said. The victim’s family filed a complaint with the anti-trafficking bureau after a medical examination confirmed she was raped, he said.

Meanwhile, police in Battambang province’s Kamrieng district are awaiting a warrant to arrest a 22-year-old man suspected of raping an 11-year-old girl on Oct 1 in Kamrieng commune’s Roka Boh village, police said.

The girl was attacked about 1 km from her village by a man police have identified as her neighbor, district police chief Thang Sin said Wednesday. Her parents filed a complaint Monday with the provincial court.
