Two Chinese Nationals Escape Quarantine Hotel

While the pair tested negative for COVID-19 initially, they were due to quarantine for 14 days but chose to flee, raising questions about the security of Cambodia’s quarantine procedures.

Two Chinese nationals escaped from quarantine on Sept. 9 and are now on the run in Phnom Penh, according to Or Vandine, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

“Authorities are currently searching for the two people,” said Vandine, adding that the two Chinese males had allegedly had an argument before making their escape.

The pair arrived in Phnom Penh from China on Sept. 8, but fled their hotel on the afternoon of Sept. 9 after initially testing negative for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), Vandine confirmed.
