Turk Gets Nine Years for Buying Girls’ Virginity

A Turkish man was sentenced to nine years in jail Friday for purchasing the virginity of two 14-year-old girls in Phnom Penh last year.

Three Cambodian women, including the mother of one of the victims, were sentenced to three years for soliciting child prostitution.

Aydin Goktepe, 51, was found guilty of having sex with the two girls at the Srey Pech and Samnang guesthouses in Daun Penh district’s Phsar Thmey III commune in April.

Mr. Goktepe, who will be deported upon release, was arrested in May after police suspicions arose due to the Turkish national approaching tuk-tuk drivers in his search for underage girls.

Presiding Judge Meng Tony found Doeun Srey Net, 22, guilty of brokering the deal and persuading 53-year-old Saing Thoeun—the mother of one victim—to sell her child for sex.

The sister of one victim, Chhoeun Srey Net, 22, is currently at large and was found guilty of the same charge.

Mr. Goktepe and Doeun Srey Net were ordered to pay one victim $1,500 between them while the Turk was ordered to pay about $1,000 in compensation to the second victim.
