Three people died and 25 were injured Tuesday in Mondolkiri province when a truck driving villagers in Pech Chreada district veered off National Road 76A, according to provincial traffic police chief Chan Tith.
Phal Tres, 60, Sam Phorn, 55, and Srey Neang, 15, died instantly after a truck driven by On Va, 42, that had just been loaded with supplies donated by the Cambodian Red Cross at a ceremony led by its president, Bun Rany, lost control and turned over, Mr. Tith said yesterday.
“The driver, who also got injured, has escaped because he was afraid authorities would arrest him,” he said, adding that Mr. Va was speeding at the time of the accident, though no arrest warrant has been issued.
“He could not control the speed,” he said. The 25 injured passengers, 13 of whom were seriously injured, are being treated at hospitals in Mondolkiri, Phnom Penh and Vietnam, Mr. Tith said.
