Three men were sent to provincial courts in separate rape cases involving two young girls and a disabled elderly woman in Kompong Thom and Battambang provinces, police said Monday.
Farmer Soeun Suoy, 58, was sent to Kompong Thom provincial court Friday on charges of raping his 10-year-old step-daughter while the girl’s mother recovered from childbirth, said Reach Sophal, chief of the provincial police’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection section.
The girl was raped four times last week at her home in Kompong Svay district’s Trapaing Russey commune, Reach Sophal said, adding that the suspect threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the attack.
On Saturday, farmer Chhat Leum, 31, appeared in Battambang provincial court after he was accused of raping his 13-year-old niece, said Chhy Chhavin, deputy bureau chief of the provincial police’s juvenile protection unit.
The girl was attacked twice in a rice field last year and a third time last week in her home, near the victim’s house in Prey Totoeng village, O’Taki commune, Thmar Koul district, the deputy chief said.
“The victim was threatened not to speak out, otherwise she would be killed,” Chhy Chhavin said, adding that the girl contracted a venereal disease as a result of the ordeal.
The NGO Protection of Juvenile Justice provided the girl with a lawyer free of charge, President Sim Souyong said.
Also in Battambang province, a deaf 70-year-old woman in frail health was raped at her home in Ek Phnom district’s Kos Chy Vaing commune, Chhy Chhavin said. Fisherman Ke Reth, 45, was sent to provincial court Monday, shortly after the woman’s niece arrived at the house and witnessed the rape.
All three men confessed to the crimes, police officials said.
