Three men were sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning Tuesday after allegedly having sex with two girls aged 13 and 14, police officials said Tuesday.
The three suspects, Ing Sovann Khemara, 17, Chov Sterin, 18 and Huon Chan Dara, 23, were arrested in the capital by military police on Saturday and Sunday, said Thai Sokhon, deputy chief of the national military police’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection bureau.
Another suspect in the statutory rapes of the two girls, who are cousins, is at large, he added.
According to Mr. Sokhon, one of the girls met the suspects on Facebook and the other at a local nightclub.
Police made the arrests after the girls’ aunt—with whom they lived—grew suspicious about their comings and goings and they admitted they’d been having sex with the men.
“According to the aunt of the two girls, they had left home from one to five days,” he said.
The suspects are to be charged today, he said. Colonel Sin Sitha, bureau chief of national military police’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection, said the girls had been sent to an unspecified child protection NGO.
