Three Men Arrested for Rape Of Teen Girls in Separate Cases

Man rapes stepdaughter, 2 others rape 16-year-old

A man in Banteay Meanchey province was arrested Thursday for the rape of his paralyzed 17-year-old stepdaughter, police and court officials said yesterday.

Srey Meas Sophon was arrested in Mongkol Borei district after raping the girl three times over the course of the past month, district deputy police chief Hor Samnath said.

“The girl told her mother [last week] that her stepfather raped her three times in a small storage room over the last 20 days before complaining,” he said.

The suspect has denied the allegations, saying that he had only been carrying the girl from one place to another in order to help her, Mr Samnath said.

Phann Phirom, deputy provincial prosecutor, said no physical examinations have yet been conducted to determine whether the victim was raped, but that local authorities were working with NGOs to resolve the case.

In a separate case, Kompong Chhnang Provincial Court charged two men on Saturday with the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Rolea Ba’ier district’s Pongro commune, commune police chief Hun Sarom said.

On Aug 18, the young victim went out on her bicycle at about 9 pm to buy ice for a party. On the way, she was approached by a man causing her to abandon her bike and flee on foot, Mr Sarom said.

She then ran into the suspects Cheam Vichet, 24, and Dy Ratana, 23, who on the pretense of helping her find her bicycle, took her to a secluded location and raped her.

The victim did not tell her family until five days later, out of fear she would get into trouble, Mr Sarom said, adding that both suspects are in provisional detention.
